Arsenal must recognize the benefits of Benfica in the Eusebio Cup friendly match, Saturday, August 6, 2011 (Sunday morning GMT). The Gunners lost 1-2, despite winning it first in 34 minutes goal by Robin Van Persie.
In a match that took place at the headquarters of Benfica at the Estadio da Luz, Arsenal minus two key players, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri. In addition, at the end of the match, Arsenal had lost three other players through injury.
"Van Persie suffered an ankle problem. I do not know the extent of the injury. (Kieran) Gibbs suffered a thigh muscle problem and (Thomas) Vermaelen minor back injury," according beber Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger at the official website of the Gunners.
Wenger also admitted weakness of foster children in the game. Asenal, Wenger said, played well in the first round. However, entering the second half of their game down. "We lost a lot of players and you can see it in the second half," said Wenger.
"They (Benfica) played well for 90 minutes. They are very active, aggressive and technically very good. They maintain the quality for 90 minutes, whereas we only maintain it for 45 minutes."
Rows of injured players is adding a long list of injured Arsenal players. Earlier, midfielder Jack Wilshere also injured as they draw against New York Red Bulls in the Emirates Cup, last July.
